Breeding

Enkeyns and Sa’enkeyns alike tend to arrange matters so that must pups are born at the same time, usually when the most food will be available. This arrangement is known as a breeding season. Occasionally pups will be born outside this time, but this is an uncommon practice.

There are a few rules that need to be followed for both Enkeyn and Sa’enkeyn breedings:

  • Breeding seasons are announced on the forum. If breedings aren’t available, please don’t apply!
  • Individuals can be applied with more than once, but each Enkeyn or Sa’enkeyn can only have one successful breeding per season or event. If a pair is successful for someone, any other applicants who applied with one or more of the individuals from the successful pair will be out of luck.
  • Once the breeding slots have been randomly assigned, success is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that if two people applied with the same pair and both breedings were technically successful, only the first applicant would actually receive a pup.
  • If you don’t own both the male and the female you’re applying with, you must have permission from their owner(s). If you apply for a breeding without asking permission you may be banned from my adoptables for a while.

Enkeyns and Sa’enkeyns have different breeding requirements, so please read carefully before applying!

Enkeyn Breeding

Some Enkeyns form bonded pairs that remain together for life, while others may have a different partner for each pup. There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these methods, but this currently doesn’t have an effect on their breeding success. Each Enkeyn breeding has a base success rate of about 30%. A breeding usually results in a single pup, very rarely twins.

Seyts and Names

Seyt inheritance is fairly straightforward:

  • If a pup is born to Enkeyns of the same seyt, it will also belong to that seyt.
  • If the parents are from different seyts, or one is seytless, the pup can choose whether to associate itself with one, both, or neither of the seyts when it becomes an adult.
  • If both parents are seytless, the pup will be seytless.

Pups are named in Kelelian when they reach adulthood and are called by a nickname before then. The surname is passed down from the mother.

Traits and Coloration

A pup will only inherit a trait if both parents show it (100% chance), if one shows it and one carries the gene for it (50% chance), or if both carry the gene for it and just don’t show it (25% chance). Random mutations can occur but these are uncommon.

Patterns and colorations are based on those shown by the parents, and may also include patterns and colors from grandparents.

Sa’enkeyn Breeding

Most Sa’enkeyns form pair bonds and remain with a single mate for life. Sa’enkeyns who aren’t part of a pair can still breed, just with a lower chance of success. The success rate for bonded pairs is 40% while the success rate for unbonded pairs is 30%. A single pup is usually born, but twins are a possibility and even triplets are not unheard of.

Names

Sa’enkeyn names don’t follow a particular pattern or system. The original Sa’enkeyns were given new names in Kelelian, but later generations were given names in a variety of languages. Surnames are not used, only given names.

As a rule, Sa’enkeyns cannot be given ‘real’ names (eg Sarah, Bob, Joe), names based on fictional characters (eg Sephiroth, Captain Picard), or names with non-English words (eg Fleur, Sakura).

Traits and Coloration

A pup has a 100% chance of inheriting a trait if both parents show it, and a 50% chance of inheriting a trait if only one parent shows it. Random mutations are quite common, particularly when exposed to concentrated natural magic of a particular type. In time there will be items available that will influence the appearance of new traits.

Patterns and colorations are based on those shown by the parents and are also prone to random mutations.
