Eeep! Sorry I'm late, internet issues!
Pride snorts proudly as he regards the other competators at the start of the race. He was excited for the opportunity to race, and to show off for his greatest prize, and felt the adreniline pulse through his body in excitement at the surge of bodies to the race. He decides to be careful and takes a normal pace till he can see what the path ahead brings.

And the racers start off the race, some taking a quick lead. No obstacles have appeared yet, but they could be lurking at any point in the race.
CosmicDragon, you can jump in at any time, Frenzy will be running at a normal pace until then.

Refrain begins to slow down as the nerves slow down and starts to take it easy and ration out her strength.

The mud of the swamp oozes between Sentinel's paws and she slows her pace to an normal trot, busy trying to kick the muck from her toes. Awful, disgusting place!

Well, this wasn't as tough as she'd thought! Stalk breezed easily through the swamp, feeling the damp ground squish between her hooves as she unconsciously lifted her scythes higher to keep them as clean as possible. The glow trailing from her eyes seemed to brighten as she all but pranced further into the swamp, still at a normal pace, eager and alert for the first obstacle. What might a swamp bring? Will-o-the-whisps perhaps? She'd always fancied seeing those!

Passions extra legs helped to launch him forward, padding on the damp soggy ground. He could feel his heart beating faster as the competition begins, his adrenaline level through the roof. He makes sure to see the path before him, taking it Normal this time, figuring with his luck, something was coming up. He pushes forward, pacing himself. He was determined to place in this race!

Whip eyes the swamp stretching ahead of them, then glances around. He had made good time and speed from the start of the race, and now decides to take it at a normal pace. There were only a few others with him right now, and he could always run faster later on!
He had wanted to continue running (or squelching) as fast as he could, but he knew that if he let his pride take over, he'd end up with such a scolding from his mares, and likely a few knocks too!

Mystic of the Sheltering Morass shakes her head, strands of her mossy mane flick across her face. This is not what I had in mind!. She thought with a grimace. Imagine the shame, the embarrassment of being beaten through a swamp by some of these... These upstarts!
She snorts in agitation then reminds herself to breath steadily and evenly as she speeds up to a more normal pace.

Happy with her easy little start, devious little Erosion immediately starts to gather herself up and push forward, quick and hard. She keeps her head low, not wanting to have her red hued horns knock against a vine, or the unlikely low branch, eyes scanning the flashing ground as she pushed forward.

Mystic of the Soothing Sun slither-hop-runs in his own unique gait at an acceptable rate. Feeling the uncertain terrain beneath him, he begins to worry that there might be a trap looming, so he slows to an easy pace.

AHA hotel internet is terrible! Also, I'm sooo tired. Glad to be back from Epcot- it's so much easier to reply on a laptop as opposed to a droid. XD
Pride was making fast ground, but he needed to go faster! He had his beautiful Rustle to make proud- as well as their brand-new beautiful little filly.
His sweet-tempered little foal, the elemental of Rustle and his dreams- she needed a sire who she could be proud of, who would prove himself to the rest of the the songs- he was not a stallion to back down easy!
Plus, he needed to scare off any potentional suitors of his little baby girl! No colt was going to lay a hoof, paw, or talon on her, not while he was kicking! Some proof of a medal might just prove that to those gawkers who wanted to take his daughter! Pride snorted and picked up his pace, going for the finish line
hard.

As the racers run/squelch on, there's still no obstacles in reach... when will they appear?
@ Seren - what a gorgeous little filly!

Whip narrows his eyes, tail twitching. Something should have appeared by now, he feels. Since nothing has, the short fur on his back and shoulders keeps twitching and ruffling.
Though that could be the bugs, as well.
He continues to run at a normal pace.

Refrain ignores the bypassing Sams, keeping to her pace. By going easy she was bound to have more energy for the end.

Mystic looks around himself in bafflement, he was so sure there would be a sinkhole! With a spurt of determination, he runs hard down the trail!

Mud between her toes was good...but a frog was not. Stepping on one had slowed her down and nearly halted her progress through the swamp. Looking ahead with eyes blazing now, Stalk bucked free of the mud, kicked the offending amphibian out of the way and lunged recklessly ahead at a hard pace, momentarily forgetting that there were still obstacles planted to be faced and that she was liable to fall flat on her face the moment she struck one.

Sentinel whips her head around to be certain - Yes, she's in the lead! She flaps her wings in pleased excitement and continues at a normal speed.

Mystic's broad feet splay wide in the squishy, squelchy ground. She beams proudly as she passes by two opponents. There's still a large gap between her and the lead though. Mystic kicks up her heels and puts on a burst of speed, pushing herself hard.

Pulling ahead a bit was fine with Erosion, she decided to slow down, just a bit, into a more normal pace.

Pride continued at his hard, breakneck piece, drinking in little gulps of air as he charged along, tail waving behind him like a vibrant banner- a banner that the little roly-poly wobbler back with Rustle had back with her at the finish line, awaiting his return. He wanted to be there with them again.
@silvermoondragon- Isn't she WONDERFUL? I can't wait to see her all grown up! She's such a mossy little babe. :3 Dapples and I adore her! <3

Passion decides to take his pace easy, catching his breath a little, his legs starting to tremble a bit. He needed to regain his strength and stamina. He breathes calmly, making sure to inhale through his nostrils and exhale through his mouth. He lifts his middle feet, letting them rest as he keeps with his easy pace.

And finally the first obstacle appears, a tight patch of vines hang down from the trees, perhaps there's even a few snakes hanging in there. Poor Stalk, so distracted by the amphibian he had only just removed, runs straight into the vines, getting a little tangled in amongst them. Passion and Sentinel only just reach the beginning of the vines, preparing to go through them on their next turn.

Whip eyes the vines with distaste, and crouches lower down, arching his tail forward in case of snakes. Nasty critters, the jungle ones could get big enough to swallow a Sam whole!
He carefully picks his way through the vines at an easy pace.

Head up, Mystic of the Soothing Sands spies his fellow racers getting caught up in vines and snakes. More than half snakish himself, Mystic slows just slightly to a normal pace to launch through it.

Refrain notices that some of the Sams ahead of her are slowed down a touch by something or other, but she was falling behind everyone as well. She was all warmed up now too, hopefully there wasn't too much of a chance for her to trip as she started a normal pace.
