Elementals have always been a rather unique case in Samanayr society. The majority consider themselves a world apart from non-Elementals, distanced from their insignificant concerns and daily lives. This is not entirely due to ego as Elementals do have a very different perspective on life given that they spend their own immersed in magic and its tides, not always entirely in touch with the physical world or reality. It can be very hard to read them emotionally and many Samanayrs feel that they experience emotions differently from non-Elementals, or not at all.
Unfortunately some Elementals do consider themselves superior in all ways to non-Elemental Samanayrs. These individuals tend to keep themselves far removed from regular Samanayr society, usually peacefully, sometimes not.
More than anything, Elementals are concerned with magic: absorbing, using, and shepherding it. They are most content when dwelling in an area rich in their own particular type of magical energy and are unhappy and on edge when in an area poor in their type, or in magical energy in general. An Elemental without a strong source of magic to draw on is weak and vulnerable, and some can even be in danger of death if they require a great deal of energy to sustain them.
Elementals tend to have a singular drive or focus, what they consider their ultimate purpose. For some this is exploration, while others appoint themselves guardian and magical caretaker of a particular area. The focus tends to develop as a young Elemental grows and might be influenced by location or their peers, and tends not to change once the foal has grown to adulthood.
Some Elementals commit themselves to the study of non-Elemental Samanayrs, even going so far as to join non-Elemental Songs and bear and sire non-Elemental young. Others create Elemental Songs but they are often in flux, growing and shrinking as Elementals come and go, riding the currents of magic. If others disapprove of this method of Song-making the Elementals appear to not care.
In short, although many Elementals have difficulty understanding and relating to their non-Elemental kin, many others are an active part of non-Elemental Samanayr society, even if they don’t always follow all of its rules and social customs.
