Bonding

Since her childhood Chilling had always wanted a baby. One of her life goals was acomplished as she was able to bare a gorgeous young filly with her stallion. The day was bright upon her birth and the name oh so fitting. With a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face, Chilling watched her darling foal grow into a gorgeous young mare. Acompanied by her wild dragonet, Chillings first born took to the skies... a natural born sky pilot, just like mom. Pride built in her heart as she watched her baby become more and more grown up.

*******

Chilling smiled as she watched Dives sleep. She had not left her mothers song yet as she was still in her own search for a song. Chilling sighed a deep sigh, enjoying their time together. Until the horrible date that she leaves her side. Chilling dreaded that day...Though knowing full well it would still happen one day. She smirked as Dives small dragonet moved in her sleep, her little wing now covering dives face. Frosty chirped from atop of Chillings head as they both watched in silence.

Wake her already... Frosty said as she scratched Chillings head. Chilling looked up to the dragonet and snorted out her nose. "Fine" She said grumpily. She was enjoying watching her baby sleep. "Dives..." She said softly as she nuzzled her daughters face, moving the dragonets wing out of the way. "Dives my dayrling...wake up" She stood back and watched as eyes opened to the world.

Dive was caught up in a dream that sent her heart racing, making her eyelids twitch as she dove straight down, wind whistling past her ears delightfully as she plummeted gleefully towards the earth below. Her heart was pounding with adrenaline at the fall, her body streamlined as the air parted around her as water would, airy currents no use against gravity's strong pull.
Her eyes were merely slits as she dove, tears at the edges of them from the pure rush, as she laughed in her head, as it was impossible to talk.
Chinook was nowhere to be seen in her dream, probably left behind to stare up at her from the ground with his (I'm calling her a girl, though I'm not sure what gender Chinook is. XD) big eyes wide in awe.

It was obvious that the filly was caught up in dreaming, as she twitched and grinned ferciously in her sleep, Chinook managing to scramble up to lay along her neck with his wings hanging from either side of her, making little drowsy clicks, while one wing shifted to block Dive's face.
A voice was calling her in her dream, and she found it impossible; how could anyone keep up with her? She tried to ignore it in favor of her steep plunge, but the voice again spoke, and she felt herself pulled from sleep, scrambling against stirring awake, but submitting to open her dark eyes and blink confusedly at the atmosphere, glancing up quickly towards the fully striped figure of her mother, causing Chinook to go flying off in a drowsy bundle of wings. "Oh!" The filly cocked her head to one side and sighed softly as the adrenaline left her. "Mother, what is it? Is something wyrong?" She quickly got to her feet, turning to pick Chinook up hurriedly, if not a bit roughly, and desposited the dragonet on her back.

Chilling seemed surprised as her daughter got up in a flurry of color and wings, tossing the poor dragonet on her back hurridly. As her daughter asked what was wrong she closed her eyes and smiled. "Nothing is wyrong...We need to stayrt your sky schooling...and be a little moyre gentle with heyr, shes still a baby" She said with a wink to her daughter. Dragonets tend to be fragile.

Chilling tucked her wings to her side as she turned and walked outside. They roosted in a cave on the side of a mountain, their view... amazing! Chilling stood at the edge of their porch and took in a deep breath. The sun was coming up over the ridge line, causing the sky to erupt in color. She looked down, the drop was fierce. Any non winged sam would plummet to their doom. She thanked the gods that she was born with hers.

Chilling turned to her daughter, frosty cooing softly on her head. "Huyrry up!" She said as she fell backwards. She disappeared off the cliffs edge. Plummeting to the bottom, her wings still tucked to her sides.

Dive blinked as she glanced back at her slowly waking dragonet, nuzzling Chinook's little form, saying softly. "Chinook's tough." However, the way she moved showed plainly that she was concerned for her companion's well being. She turned her large dark eyes back onto her mother who stood just a bit taller than her now, eyeing the differences in height critically, trying to figure out when she'd finally catch up to her mother and gain those last few inches. She was so lost in her pondering that when Chilling turned to walk outside. Red and violet mixed hair flopped some into her face she she tilted her head and then hurried after her, red hooves thumping softly on the stone floor, eyes wide in the thought of getting to fly with her mother.

Chinook bobbed along on her back, holding onto her with little hooking forepaws at the front of her wings, blinking his lavender eyes as Dive slid to a stop behind her mother, having barely a second to blink before Frosty and Chilling disappeared over the edge, her tufted tail lashing as she let out a little whoop into the early morning air, leaping over the edge and arcing up before starting to fall rapidly after her mother, Chinook still gripping her coat and pressed low to the ground, eyes narrowed against the chilly morning air rushing up to meet them, Dive's name suiting her as she dropped like a stone, copying her mother in forming an aerodynamic posistion so the wind rushed around her instead of catching on her and lifting her up, as the ground loomed closer and closer, a little crooked grin formed on her striped face.

Last second chillings wings flew open her feet barely missing the shrp rocks below. The mountian seemed to go on forever, the forst at its base forming a prefect green barrier. She barrel rolled through the air then sharply turned straight up, her wings flapping to bain her altitude.

By her side her Frosty flew mimicing her moves perfectly. With each acrobatic move chilling and frosty would make a different sounding chirp. A training device. Dragonets have great vision. By utilizing their eyes and swiftness, Chillling was able to navigate and make better arial decisions.

Chilling continued up throwing in some simple tricks, chirping all the way. She smiled as she watched her daughter attempt her lesson.

She couldn't see her mother pull up, however, she heard a little shrill noise on her back where Chinook clung that signified that Chilling must have pulled up, and let her thin angular wings, not a long as her dam's lavender ones, catch the air and rose sharply, her wings pushing off of the air currents below to rise, her heart beating fastly, looking to eye Chinook and see if he was ready, turning back to hover in midair while watching her mother go through the moves with Frosty, biting her lip thoughtfully, she started to rise, feeling little claws release their grip on her coat as Chinook pushed off her back to fly in a ring around her.

A little bit of fire sparked in Dive's belly, her normally sparkling eyes took on a slightly hazy look of wistfullness, blinking when a dragonet suddenly blocked her view, Chinook gripping tight onto her face and cocked his clever little head to the side, a little tongue darting out to stroke up Dive's face, blinking his periwinkle eyes merrily and questioningly, making a curious sound. Dive playfully nodded, prodding Chinook to let go, as she leveled out, and swooped lower before climbing some again, Chinook flying just above her, riding on the updrafts she created with her larger form. She herself gave a soft whistle, hearing a shrill sound above she glanced up to see Chinook bank to the left, she followed her dragonet's movements, knowing that he had felt a shift in the air. They climbed again, suddenly banking down sharply and, on a whim, Dive barrel rolled without a click of warning, accidently striking Chinook's pale form with a wingtip as she drew in her wings to complete the move, sending little Chinook into a spiral, and hearing the shree her friend gave, tried to open her wings too quickly, catching one wing on her too-long adolescent legs and feeling a little bit of delicate skin tear, making her bite her velvetly lips to keep from crying out, instead eyes darting around hurriedly, trying to pick out Chinook's little form, and making a soft noise when she couldn't spot him.

Chilling flew through the air elegantly. Her eyes closed as she did her tricks. She completed and stopped turning to look at her offspring. She watched as her daughter made an odd movement her face seemed torn. Chilling cooed out to Dive to reassure her of her efforts.

Frosty eyed Chinook who did a splendid job of keeping up with her best friend. She squeaked joyfully as they danced through the air. Chilling noticed Dive was having some issues with her manuver. She started to move towards her but stopped herself. "She needs to leayrn" she said to herself and Frosty. Frosty nodded in agreement.

Chilling waited for her student to finish and come to her for her review.

*CHINOOK IS MALE. WHOOPS. XD*

Dive’s wing ached from where it had had been strained, shutting her eyes tight before jerking around too stare down into the rocks below, trying to pick out the pale icy blue and white form of her companion, making a little choked noise of fear, her typically fearless attitude fading quickly into an almost breakdown at the absence of her friend.

She swooped up to Chilling’s and Frosty’s forms slightly higher up, her vision blurry with tears, trying to keep from sobbing. “M-mom, I can’t find Chinook!” Her mouth quivered as she tried to rein in the tears, shaking some, and staring up at Chilling. Her forelegs were crossed tight with worry for her buddy.

Chinook coughed once, a little bundle of flop, having fallen through the sky and luckily landing in a bit of scrubby brush that slowed his fall, despite scratching the delicate skin of his wings. He wobbily untangled himself from the brush and looked around blearily, sheltered from the sky’s view by some boulders, pulling himself along the ground ponderously to a lone pine that stood out a little ways from the other trees, curling up in his little shaking form. He knew his companion and guardian would come for him.

(I’m thinking Hansa can help Chinook out hm? :3)

Chilling's eyes widened as her daughter came calling in fear. Her voice was strained and a tear fell from her face. The whole disaster happened in a flash. Chilling hovered in shock as the small dragonet fell, her daughters cries knocking her to her senses. Frosty screamed and dove down for the fallen babe.

She chirped and cooed as she flew over the boulders that scattered the mountain base, hoping to hear a response. She searched but to no avail.

Chilling flew to meet her crying offspring, comforting her upon their reunion. She motioned with her head for them to go down and look. She tried to comfort her with words as well "Dont woyrry we will find him". She dove down towards the boulders on the ground. Hopefully he was ok.

Hansa didn't have too long before the sun would dry up all the little particles of ice. And she knew flying around wouldn't help find it, nor would it be in the trees, so she was resigned to looking down on the ground. Ruby red eyes combed the ground as she spotted a mossy landing spot, which was located just outside the tree line. In the air she could have heard something that sounded like voices, but she ignored it, plunking down on the moss as she glanced around, small ice was here, somewhere, she could smell it.
Flexing her wings, she closed them over her back, like green blankets, and started crawling and hopping away from the trees. The landscape, other then the forest behind her, was filled with nothing. One lone pine, small piles of boulders, then the mountain. But there were some small dips in the ground, little crevices that were in shadow. With a decisive red and green headed nod, she started on again, but almost immediately stopped again when she saw another, tiny, form, one that didn't belong to the land.
Was another looking for ice too? Hansa narrowed her red eyes for a moment. No. It was too small to be out alone, looking for ice, and too 'crumpled' to be good. Maybe it was hurt? Hansa eyed the distance between them, deciding that it would take too long to try and hop-crawl her way there, she spread thin wings and took off, angling them to catch a low breeze that would take her to the little form.

She made a simple noise in greeting, to announce her presence as she landed next to what she could now see was a blue, white and purple dragonet. A baby at that. Folding her wings over her back neatly, she studied him, and noticed the faint scratch marks, not enough to draw blood, but enough to be a discomfort. Sticking her head in fearlessly, she stared with huge red eyes, so that the only thing the youngin' could see was her.

Chinook was tired from his little rocking crawl across the rocky gravel, and was trying to catch a moment's rest, when his eyes closed, just for a moment he thought, as he struggled not to doze off. His little bones ached, and he trembled once, before opening his eyes and recoiling with shock. Two ruby eyes bored into his, a green and red face blocking out the rocky landscape he had seen before, replaced by the strange creature. He made a little gasping squeaking noise before he could stop himself, and the sharp bob of his head as he shrink back made his neck ache from the jarring it had recieved. He shrank down among the rocks, a small tongue poking out of his maw as he heavily panted, trembling with fear. This wasn't one of his guardian friends.

Dive heard Frosty's scream, and it made her ears ring as she struggled not to sob and to breathe deeply, her head spinning some. Her dam's words and demeanor were comforting, but she couldn't shake off the urge to wail and cry, despite her normally tough attitude. But she sucked in a shaky breath and dove, weaving in and out of boulders with reckless movements, looking for her little friend and hoping with all of her heart that he was okay.

Hansa started and jerked back a bit, staring at the young one. Didn't it know that being quiet out in the wild was the key to survival? She narrowed her ruby eyes some. But she couldn't get mad, right? Tis only a baby, which means she should give leeway... Hansa shook her head. This time, the little 'net was lucky. Hansa opened her mouth then shut it, sticking her tongue out before opening her eyes wide again. She shuffled forward, reaching out as she craned her head forward, poking the front of his neck with another huge blink.

Frosty landed on the ground, the boulders were looming. She squeaked her calls for the babe. She elegantly maneuvered through the debris until she came up behind the newly discovered dragonet. She was very colorful and seemed harmless...but looks can be deceiving. She hissed at the colorful dragonet and moved into a more defensive stance.

Frosty began to chirp loudly as she kept her eyes on the new threat. She had to let Chilling know where they were. It would only be minutes before they found them. What was this other dragonet planning to do! Chilling could only think about getting to her pupil.

Chinook was lost. This dragonet was so much bigger than him! And her front paws were strange. her wings didn't connect to them. This confused him further, along with her pshydellic coloring that was almost too much to look at for a baby dragonet who was used to seeing the cool colorings of his guardians and Frosty. His little lavender eyes were huge in his little pale blue head, his little mouth open like he wanted to cry, but couldn't, a big wet tear running down his cheek. His little bones ached, and his wings were torn. It was cold, and these gravelly rocks beneath him weren't comfy like Dive's stomach. He felt her poke him, and starting shaking like a leaf, tail tucked in tight.

(Chinook's never seen a dragonet like her. And he's just suffering from trauma. So he's a pathetic little bundle of squeaks. *huggles Chinook* )

Hansa was confused. So maybe she didn't deal with baby dragonets very well... Or not at all. But that didn't mean that she didn't have general understandings of how a little dragonet would work, or how gently to touch one, and she was certain that her poke was very soft, for her standards. Almost tentatively she pushed her beak forward again, this time trying to be softer as she nudged the tear away. That's when she heard a hiss from behind her. Hansa spun, whether or not it was this little dragonet baby's friend, she didn't know, what she did know was that the little mite was hurt, by the looks of it, and she had to keep him safe, quite possibly scaring him more in the process. Her colors, in their few advantages moments, were good only if she were trying to scare a predator, it wouldn't, she was almost sure, work on another dragonet, who had had time to size her up, but one could always try. Hansa shrieked, loud, for her normally silent demeanor, as she spun, facing her loudly chirping opponent with unfurled wings, batting the air with them as she pawed the air with her claws. She puffed herself up, lashed her pretty long tail and hit it against the ground. And with a loud hiss, that could take out one of those loud chirps, she inched closer, daring the other to move towards the little 'net with her ruby colored eyes narrowed.

Frosty paused a minute, she wasn't expecting the dragonet to lash out as she did. Frosty wasnt the biggest dragonet but she also wasnt the smallest. For a full grown dragonet she was quite formidable. She returned the hiss once more, opening her wings in challenge. Without a second to lose Frosty went in. For being a flyer she was still quite fast on the ground. Her body snaked its way quickly up and over the colorful opponent. In an instant Frosty was between the two.

She nuzzled chinook and turned swiftly to face the opposition. What do you want?! she psyscreamed, letting out a scream in psychic wave lengths. Her mind was sharp and so were her talons, she was not about to be bested by another especially with her pupil watching. She called out once more, her chirp high and loud.

Within seconds a large shadow loomed over the grounded nets in their boulder cover. "Fyrosty!" Chilling called, her black eyes peering down into the crevice. This poor dragonet seems to be very misunderstood.

Chinook stared up as the brightly colored dragonet leaned in close again, making a little choked noise, wondering if he was doomed, when he felt her snout softly wipe away a tear he hadn't realized was there. He stared with large eyes at her, little jaw dropped, a little fuzzy feeling stirring to life in his clenched tummy, of comfort from the gesture, and stared as she whirled around, catching a glimpse of glimmering purple-blue wings, making a soft noise at the sight of his teacher-guardian Frosty. He heard hissing, and quickly backed up, nervous of being caught in between the two older females.
He gave a shudder, pushed up against the boulder, before blinking in surprise at the sight of Frosty right in front of him, nuzzling him gently. He was so happy to see her! But then she turned around and faced the tropically-colored dragonet, making him make a small squeak of nervousness. His little heart was beating rapidly, but he forced himself to crawl forward, aiming to squeeze past Frosty and stop a fight.

Dive had been searching frantically, inwardly cursing herself with many words Chilling would have disapproved of, but not caring at this point, only worried for her best friend's safety. She was so angry with her own rashness, but she shoved the feeling aside to focus on looking, when she heard the chirps of Frosty and saw her mother racing over to a cluster of boulders, her heart lifting and galloping over quickly, staying steady despite the gravelly terrain and calling out desperately wantingly, "Chinook! I'm heyre!"

(WHY YES HE IS. Poor little dragonet fluff, can't even mind-speak. *shakes head*)

The multicolored kreenasa hissed angrily when the next thing she knew this new dragonet was between her and the baby. She was sluggish that day, she decided, no other reason for it. She was good at protecting things, and little 'nets were no exception to that. Hansa spun angrily and was about to reply when she saw the large shadow overhead and a voice call out a name. Nothing would go her way today, all ice melted, now being surrounded by flying beings, and another dragonet stole what she was trying to protect. Hansa let out an angry and defensive psychic scream, aimed both at the first new large figure and the dragonet that took the baby. Backing up a mere half step she lowered herself to the ground, hissing louder, clawing at the hard rocky ground, and noticing the faint movement of the young one.

Chilling eyed the goings on below her between the boulders and she laughed aloud. "No yreason for hissing, we will not huyrt you...will we Fyrosty?" She said closing her eyes merrily and then looking to Frosty for assurance.

A small coo escaped Frosty and her whole attitude changed. Her posture loosened and she seemed to become more relaxed, turning her back to the new 'net so she could comfort her fallen pupil. She nudged and rubbed her face on Chinook, hoping to comfort him enough for him to move again.

Chinook was still shaking, but cooed softly to Frosty, looking to the brightly colored dragonet worriedly, tilting his head to the side and clicking gently, glancing back up at Frosty, before his eyes got big and he made a little whimpering noise, hopping over, his scrapes still tender, to cling to Dive's leg.

Dive was so thrilled to see Chinook she almost burst out crying, but she instead lowered her head to lick at his head, nickering joyously to him as he purred, plopping down and nuzzling him as he sat between her forelegs.

Disgruntled shame ran through Hansa's body as she dropped closer to the ground, watching both Lamanayrs with wary ruby eyes. She had misgivings about these creatures, after all, she was still a wild dragonet. Propping a clawed forefoot on her curved, beak like muzzle, she rubbed, her tail curled around one hind foot.
You should be more careful.
She hissed softly at them, struggling to keep the arch out of her back as she turned away.

Dive's lip quivered, and the dragonet's words were the last thing to set her over the edge, as she sats down to shield Chinook from anyone's looks, making soft little crying noises, a little dragonet head popping up to chitter softly at the exotic dragonet before nuzzling his caretaker and hopping away, scuttling over and laying a little talon on the striped female dragonet's tail, looking up with big periwinkle eyes, chirping out his gratitude.
Dive sniffed and watched her little friend and the ruby-eyed dragonet engage, and staggered to her hooves, glancing up at Chilling and whispering in a soft husky voice filled with shame. "I'm sorry..."

Hansa's head turned some to look back at the little dragonet, whose head popped up with the sound of a chitter. She blinked down at him when he put a small talon on her tail, making a soft gurgling noise. Slowly she leaned in to the small 'net, pressing her nose against the side of his face in a slow, sweet manner. She kept quiet then, though her eyes ever so often glanced up at the two Lamanayrs and back to the 'net.

Chilling nodded to her daughter. "Do not fyret my child...Eveyry one is fine...It is a good day" She smiled down at the little dragonet brood below.

"Come Fyrosty..." She said as she turned and put her tail down the crevice. Frosty grabbed onto her tail and was lifted out of the depths, cooing as she rose out. With a flick of her tail, Frosty was airborne. Chilling smiled. She was glad no one was hurt.
