Naming a Sam (and companions!)

Post by Janalee »

Samanayr ID: 1608
Name: Rider of the Restless Sky
Dragonet Name: Zenith
Avian Name: Welkin

Sorry for the delay on this! I really don't want to know just how long I spent debating between 'Sky' and 'Skies'... XD But if anyone deserved to have names that fit them as perfectly as possible, it might be this trio! Thanks so much again for them! :D

So, since I never ended up certing the first Rider and the other Riders don't ride the birds, I've encountered a bit of a dilly of a pickle.. what should the bird-riding Riders' birds be called? They're not really mage constructs and they can be different types and species of birds, and Rider Birds just doesn't seem to cut it.. XD

An elven name generator that I like had the following:

Ther: sky
-rail/ria (-aral; -ral; -ryl): hunter

Maybe some combination of those might work, with the meaning being Sky Hunters? Theral? Theryl? Theria?

There was also:
-el (-ele/ -ela) for hawk
-drim (-drimme; -udrim) for flight/flyer
-ean for ride/rider
-lis (-elis; -lys) for breeze
-vain (-avain) for spirit
-thi (-ethil; -thil) for wing
-mus for ally/companion

*laughs* What's wrong with the majestic sounding 'Birdy?' XD Ooh, but Theral is fun- it reminds me of Tiercel, which I've always thought was a pretty falconry term. ^^ If you're looking for English words though...would Raptor be broad enough, or could they be any kind of bird? In which case, maybe Aves? Or Mount? Or Eyas, if you also enjoy spending too much time looking at falconry terms? ;)

Therean for Sky Rider sounds cool to me. :D

*grins* I thought about suggesting Eyas, but then I rationalized that not all birds might be in the raptor family *pictures a mini riding a hummingbird!*

Rocs could be amusing too!

Thanks so much for the suggestions <3 It's taken me way too long to come to a conclusion about this, and I was tempted by Eyas for a while, but in the end I've decided to go with Great Raptors. I figure even the non-raptor birds might appreciate this title as they are pretty great regardless of what kind of bird they are? XD;

In any case, they've all finally been updated and I'm very sorry for the delay!

Since I wouldn't mind being called a Great Raptor, I'd say it's a fantastic name for them! :D Thanks so much for them again Sushi! And no worries about any delays- it just means I got to dance excitedly for an even longer time. *grins*
