E.S.S. :: Mystic of the Dark Echo, "Echo"

Post by Eirnae »

Image
Samanayr Name
Mystic of the Dark Echo

RP Font Color
Cornflower blue

Gender
Mare

Species
Tribal Mystic

Age
Young adult

Physical Description
Upon encountering Echo, most get distracted by just how many wings she has. All of them are similar in color if not in size, beginning with the same shade of dazzling white as her coat. Soon the purity of the fresh fallen snow-like color is brushed by hints of cornflower blue, which is quick to give way to a dark gray. Each of her pin feathers are tipped in a deep black, as if they were dipped in an inkwell and allowed to dry. That her feather-tufted tail's plumage shares the same properties doesn't make it another wing per-say, but that really depends on who you're asking. What tends to be noticed next about Echo is often a toss up between the brilliant sea green of her expressive eyes, the cornflower blue gem nestled in her forehead, the mystic's long flowing mane of black and blue streaked auburn, and her ebony mystic strands. Her longer than normal ears compliment the mystic's head wings rather well, though Echo thinks of them more as an excellent way to put her favorite earring on display.

Personality
Nature has a very basic set of rules, and those who honor them enrich their lives beyond measure. Such is but one of the teachings that Echo is trying to live by daily. Having yet to find a place that she may call home, Echo wanders wherever her wings and hooves can take her, looking for inspiration and adventure. She's a friendly enough sort, though while she may smile at those she meets, Echo's trust is not easily won. Despite the fact that the tribe she grew up in is more open to relations with other Samanayr-kin than most, Echo still prefers the company of other Tribals. Being helpful is something that this mystic delights in, though it depends on who requests her assistance as to whether she asks for something in return. Echo has to maintain her collection of "shinies", after all.

Abilities
(Magical and Otherwise)

Being a Tribal Mystic of Shadow can really give a mare a bad reputation. So what if Echo specializes in cloaking herself with her element and knows how to sneak like a pro? She's no thief, and just because she's Tribal doesn't mean that she isn't approachable. Furthermore, it's not Echo's fault that she looks like she does and catches most every opponent by surprise when the mystic proves that she can indeed defend herself. What were they expecting, for her to just offer them her throat? Echo is adamant about only Shaping shadow forms to use against those who she feels "has it coming", and to be able to travel from shadow to shadow is just too useful to not keep in practice. That darn touch of clairvoyance of hers can get really annoying, though. What purpose do unpredictable visions serve other than the headaches that follow swiftly after? Flying, however, will always be a blessing. It's the ultimate feeling of freedom, one that Echo wishes that she could share with the world. Dancing is almost as blissful an experience, and when combined with flight it's the closest Echo has ever come to true happiness. She also has very keen hearing, likely because her ears are so long, and tends to react quickly to most situations on a visual level, as well. Due to Echo's tribe maintaining its alliance with the Sharians, many of its members have learned to recognize the symbols of the Sharian language. Echo caught on to the system faster than most, and therefore can be considered somewhat literate.

History
Echo wasn't born into a traditional Song. Her birth tribe is nomadic, roaming over a number of plains and rolling hills, and made up of several mated pairs that referred to themselves and their young as "families". It's not likely that the mystic will insist on such an arrangement for herself should Echo in fact find a stallion to "settle down" with, and will be content to conform to the structure of a Song. Such would be considered an acceptable practice by Echo's tribe, as it is a custom for their young to leave their territory upon declaring themselves adults and going out into the world to learn its ways. Often these ventures result in the young adult adopting what they've discovered and seeking a place for themselves in the new regions they have become accustomed to. Those that return enrich the tribe with their knowledge, and thus the cycle goes on.

The catgrygh, Shadow, has been a constant in Echo's life ever since she was but a filly. The two grew up together, and Echo's parents often jested that it was Shadow's introduction to the once tiny and plain Echo that decided the shades of their daughter's plumage and more. Shadow's name was Echo's first word, though to be fair, she may have been referencing the strong pull she felt at the time to the shady area she promptly clomped over to and flopped down for a nap. Echo is incredibly protective of Shadow, and vice versa. The two do practically everything together, from exploring to searching for sustenance.

Echo and Shadow have traveled far to reach the Song of the Rainbow Hotsprings. What initially lured Echo into the Song's territory were rumors of the many different types of Samanayr-kin that had come together in relative harmony and mostly lived in peace. Such a concept fascinates her still, as in her experience, every species she'd encountered other than the Sharians and her own tribe wanted nothing to do with the others. Eager to witness such a blend of cultures firsthand, and feeling confident enough in her abilities as a mystic to keep out of harm's way, the pair left the plains they'd been exploring at the time and started on the journey that would teach them more about themselves than Echo had ever thought possible.

Song
None, yet.

Likes
Dancing, darkness, exploring, flying, history, practicing her elemental gift, Shadow, the moon, trinkets, and shinies

Dislikes
Bullies, cloudless days, feeling helpless, moonless nights, thieves, and tight spaces

Aspirations and Goals
Collect more shinies, discover her purpose, find "the one", and learn something new every day

Fears
Deep water, losing sight of who she is, never knowing why she exists, and wildfires

Favorite Color(s)
Black, blue, and silver

Odd Fact
Echo is as close to being a moon worshiper as one can get without becoming a zealot.
She loves everything about that silvery orb in the sky, and rarely fails to dance in the glow of its beams at least once a night.

Name
Shadow

Gender
Male

Species
Catgryph

About
Where Echo goes, Shadow soon follows. Having long thought of Echo as his younger sibling, Shadow has taken on the role of being the mare's protector. Should the pair ever encounter company, Shadow is likely to interpose himself between Echo and the stranger with a warning hiss and a puffing out of feathers and fur. That Echo has grown to be more than twice his size hardly deters the catgryph's attempts to keep his "sister" safe from all perceived threats. Still, it wouldn't be fair to say that Shadow doesn't listen when Echo insists that he be civil, he's just really reluctant about it.
