Basic Race Info
Every round, a d6 (six-sided die) will be rolled for each racer. The number rolled determines how many spaces the racer goes forward, and the first Samanayr to the finish line is the winner! There are also prizes for the second and third Sams.

The races are usually run here on the forum. If held elsewhere, it will be specified.

Obstacles

Each course will have a number of obstacles to get through. When a Samanayr reaches an obstacle, a d20 (20-sided die) will be rolled for them. Each obstacle has a number from 1 to 20, based on its difficulty, and the racer's roll must match or beat that number to successfully cross the obstacle.

Until the Samanayr is able to pass the obstacle, they will not move forward. If they successfully pass the obstacle, they will get a regular movement roll that round. If they encounter the obstacle in the middle of regular movement and successfully pass it on the same turn, they will continue forward normally.

If a Samanayr isn't able to pass an obstacle after three tries, they will pass it automatically after the third attempt and keep moving forward on their next turn.

Traits Matter!

A Samanayr's features and traits can give it bonuses or penalties to regular movement and obstacle rolls. The trick is that you won't know what affect your Sam's traits will have before the race starts! Here's some examples:

- A Samanayr with the 'fluffy' or 'extensive tufts' trait will be encumbered by that extra fur, and receive a -1 penalty to each regular movement roll.
- A Samanayr with very long legs is able to leap over obstacles easily, and it will receive a +5 bonus to obstacle rolls that require going over something.
- A Samanayr with the 'butterfly wings' trait will need to be careful going through a dense bramble patch, and will receive a -10 penalty to the roll for that obstacle.
- A water Mystic would be able to gauge the currents and depths of a stream easily, giving it a +10 bonus for any obstacles requiring crossing water.

In the future, you might learn what the obstacles are before a race and be able to choose your Sam accordingly, but for now they're going into the courses blind. Good luck

Terrain

Terrain can play a part in a Samanayr's movement roll on certain courses. For example, if a course was over sandy terrain, the Desert Samanayrs would have a clear advantage and receive a +1 bonus to each roll.

Prize Information

Prizes will be assigned to the first, second, and third place racers in each race. Different races have different prizes so each race thread will tell you what prize you will be racing for.

Race prizes are special items and can only be equipped to the Samanayr that won it. If you're borrowing a Samanayr from someone else, you'll receive the item's image for your inventory, but you won't be able to equip it to the winning Samanayr unless you give the medal to the Samanayr's owner.
There is no limit to how many prizes a Samanayr can win; however, only one of each type of race prize can be worn/equipped at a time, i.e. one medal, one hairclip, ect. but they can be equipped and unequipped.

The usual prize is one of three medals:
Image First Place Medal: 25% chance of twins
Image Second Place Medal: gives a 20% bonus to breeding
Image Third Place Medal: gives a 10% bonus to breeding

Here are some of the other possible prizes you might get in special or themed races:
Themed Hairclips - usually prizes in holiday themed races, like medals, they can only be equipped to the Samanayr that won it.
Image Pumpkin Hairclip: Offspring will have the Perennial Growth trait, but the 'tree' will be a pumpkin stem.
Image Bat Hairclip: Offspring will have fangs.
Image Ghost Hairclip: Offspring will have ghostly, ethereal wings.
Image Snowflake hairclip: Offspring will have the glacies trait.
Image Reindeer hairclip: Offspring will have antlers.
Image Holly hairclip: Offspring will have the florae trait, with sprigs of holly.

Other prizes
Image Triathlon Triplet Amulets: 10% chance of triplets, and gives the wearer one of the following traits: Multiple Tails, Multiple Horns, or Seraphim.
ImageGold Olive Wreath: Foals get florae (olive branches), +10% chance of twins
ImageSilver Olive Wreath: Foals get florae (olive branches), +5% chance of twins
ImageBronze Olive Wreath: Foals get florae (olive branches)
Image Birthday Cupcake: When used in a breeding, the foal(s) will receive one of these traits randomly: mini, vestigial feathered wings, folded ears, upright hair, bob tail

Modiem Balloons: act like an extra modiem during breeding, the modiem value depends on your placing and the choice is permanant.

Modiems are also usually given out as follows with the major prizes:
First: one modiem of choice and one random modiem
Second: one modiem of choice
Third: one random modiem

Types of Races

Each race can be different, either in the course itself or the rules of the race, so each race thread will provide you with a little information on the course and give you any special rules.

Here are some of the basic race course layouts:
Ground - Any land-able Samanayr may enter, flying is not permitted
Aquatic - Any Samanayr able to swim may enter, flying is not permitted
Flying - Samanayrs able to fly may enter

And here are some of the special rules races:
Interactive - These races allow the owners to have some input into how their Samanayr races, RP can be involved if desired.
EXAMPLE
Triathlon - This race combines all three course layouts (Ground, Aquatic, and Flying) and is run by a team of three Samanayrs, each doing one of the types.
EXAMPLE
Trick - This race involves tricks chosen by the owners. Winners are chosen by points earned from tricks and race placement.
EXAMPLE
Vehicle - This race has Samanayrs racing in vehicles such as hot air balloons or toboggans chosen by their owners.
EXAMPLE
Betting - This race allows audience members to bet on the racing Samanayrs and even influence how the race turns out through the use of various spells.

Main Rules

- Each person is allowed to enter one Samanayr per racing event (not one Samanayr per race).

- If you don't own a Samanayr but would like to participate, you may apply using someone else's Samanayr as long as you have the owner's permission. Please see the information under 'prizes' for what will happen if your borrowed Samanayr receives a medal. There is more information at the bottom for non-owners, as well as a list of Samanayrs available for use.

- In the event of a tie, there will be a roll-off between those Samanayrs to see who crosses first.

- Each Samanayr can only be entered in one race.

Information for Non-Owners

Even if you don't own any Samanayrs, you can borrow someone else's Samanayr to race with, as long as you have their permission.

The following Samanayrs have been volunteered for non-owners to use. I will let you know if you choose one already being used by their owner if need be.

silvermoondragon:
See headshots of my Samanayrs in my signature at the bottom of this post. Any of them are available without permission, just send in your application. (You can click on them to see the whole image)

Zincht:
Image Memories of the Ancient Land - He likes to show off for his lady, and is happy flying or running
Image Burble of the Frothing Horizon- She's a mini with tendril fins, so land races are out. She might never win, but she has a big heart!
Image Flirtation of the Warrior Queen- She is highly competitive, and not willing to work in any triathlon team. If she wins, she wants it to be for herself.

If you own multiple Samanayrs and are happy lending out your Samanayrs to use, send me a pm to let me know if you have any exeptions, conditions, or would like to change anything once it's been added to the list. As this list is a more permanent list rather than per race like previous races, I will let any non-owner know if they happen to choose a Samanayr that the owner is already using for that race.

Suggestions and Ideas

Poll: There's an active poll running where you can vote on what race type you would like to see next.

Alternatively, feel free to send me a pm with any suggestions of new race types, or locations, that you would like to see in the future, or post your idea here in this thread or in the poll thread.
