Spring Sands

This is a ground course through a desert! Flying is not permitted.

There are 10 spots open for this race.


Racing applications are now OPEN. The apply for a race spot, send a PM to my account, silvermoondragon, either on the forum or PI(pm’s sent to Sushidragon may get missed or you miss getting the spot you want), with the subject as Spring Sands and the following form filled out:

Applications will be open until 12:00pm PST, March 29 and are chosen randomly from everyone who enters. The race will be run on March 29, sometime around 2ish PST

There are three guest artist Samanayrs up for grabs this time, a pair of desert Samanayrs and their foal.

Like other pair Samanayrs, the owner of the stallion will need to set up the Song for them. The owners can decide whether to keep it a pair Song or to allow other mares to join.

First place

- First pick between the mare, the stallion, or the foal
- One modiem of choice
- One random modiem

Second place

- Second pick between the mare, the stallion, or the foal
- One modiem of choice

Third place

- The remaining Samanayr from the prize pool
- One random modiem

The racers are now posted, congrats to everyone able to get a spot. The race will be starting in a little bit once I get everything organized.

Healer: *nods at seeing the posted list of racers, does a few stretches, then begins trying to inspect the other racers to ensure that they are healthy and fit as well*

*eyes Healer* Hmm...apparently she has more drive to help the living that she lets on.

Healer: *pauses, turns and snaps* Do you think I want to see moyre ghosts ayround? Leave me be. I'm getting yready foyr a yrace.

Yes...in your own way it appears...

Healer: Well you want a good safe yrace. Now shoo.

The racers step up to the line ready to start the race. Are those clouds beginning to form up in the skies?

Healer: *looks worried as she paces up to the starting line* Deseyrt yrainbuyrsts ayre no joke...this could get chancy. Woyrse if those ayre sandstoyrm wayrning signs yratheyr than yrain.

My little pessimist today... Just try to enjoy yourself on this race Healer... Good luck everyone!

With a rumble, the clouds open up onto our racers, soaking them and the playing field. This marks our first obstacle of the race.

*pokes Healer* You run...not hang back to watch the other racers for signs of strain or injury... Perhaps a Healer wasn't the best Sam to send. XD

Prize: *prances in and cheers! Oh Scouyr, my deayr, I know you can do this! *grabs a random cactus limb (de-thorned) and waves it as a makeshift banner*

Almost as quick as it began, the rain begins to subside, most of the racers moving through the desert squall no problem.

Prize: *looks all moony as he follows the pack of racers, still waving his cactus limb at his lady*

Apparently it was a good think I didn't enter him...not sure how he'd have taken racing against Scour. And I see Healer is enjoying the novelty of a light rain shower on the sands... *watches her stand, face upwards, staring at the sky for a moment before apparently recalling that she's supposed to be...y'know...running...

The racers move on, the heat of the desert already starting to dry off their dampened fur.

*blinks* Apparently rain is quite refreshing...look at Healer zoom now! All caught up again...

Prize: *whickers encouragement from the sides*

I feel lonely...no one else chatting this race... *looks around for the rest of the audience*

As our racers continue, the speediest comes across the next obstacle, a series of burrows and holes in the ground.


*Here's some chatting for you...*

A rather confused Sands pops her head up from one of the burrows, blinking into the bright sunlight, and narrowly missing a Samanayr as he runs past. Maybe this wasn't the best place to pick as a home...

Ooh, going to be two obstacles really close together if we have the standard three in the race... Look at Trace go! So fast! Looks like Healer finally figured out this was a race... Maybe she wants to go help Sands in case she accidentally gets stepped on.

Prize: *looks spooked then has to be restrained from entering the course to help the poor confused mare in the middle of the track; sulks slightly as he resumes cheering*

And...now time to eat. Back before long to see how the race turned out!

The third obstacle appears as the leaders begin to struggle through the soft slippery sand dunes near the end of the race.

Trace gracefully slides down a dune and across the finish line, but other racers are not far behind.

Oh no! Looks like Scour is stuck in the field of burrows!

*Scour's head snakes down to inspect one of the holes* Tasty, tasty what is hiding heyre? *Scour's head reappears, a wriggling tail quickly disappearing into her beak.*

Looks like it's going to be a close race! Congrats Trace!

Prize: *swishes tail* Oh deayr...hungyry? Oh deayr oh deayr...am I not pyroviding well enough? *frets in circles as Scour enjoys her snack*

What a close race. Healer just manages to slide across and down the dunes just ahead of the rest of the pack, claiming second place. Not far behind is Rapture who claims a glorious third place, with Crack and Kindle just a hairsbreadth behind.

Oh my, photo finish indeed! Congrats Rapture! And way to go Healer! You did great! Just took you a little bit to figure out what being competitive meant!

Healer: *stares up at all the taller Sams milling around the finish line, seemingly bemused that she managed to outrun so many of them, even fellow desert dwellers* Well, that was a good yrace, wasn't it eveyryone? No one huyrt? No one bitten? Sand wedged too deep in any hooves? *starts another round of inspections*

Prize: *now that the race is over, flutters his way up the dunes to Scour* Oh, such a good yrun! But I need to provide moyre food! You got hungyry! I shouldn't let you get hungyry! *nuzzles her*
